CSS Collection’s Own Collection

Respiro asked if we had a link to the oldest version or a screen shot of this Web site’s design. Although past designs were horrific, I thought it was a great idea to post the old designs for posterity.

The original design simply contained a list using CSS to highlight each Web site with its own colors. The original put the list in tables. We knew we needed to change this if we were to walk the talk.

Next came a basic, but bolder tableless design. It wasn’t perfect, but it was what we could do at the time. The new design worked with a blogging application, making updating the site easier and faster.

The site had had enough insults from designers on version 2.0 (they were right, but it was getting old). With a little help from a friend, we finally got a design we could stand and not feel ashamed. The new design was proven a success when entries came pouring in 10 times faster than in the previous release.

Everyone involved with the site has been a volunteer, so it wasn’t easy putting a priority on the redesign. Let’s hope this one will last for a long time as we have over 800 submissions to sift through. We review every submission.
